Stol guitars

Beitrag von Ondra »

Any Stol guitar owners here?

Standa Stol is a guy originaly from the Czech Republic who moved to Nürnberg many years ago. In my opinion, he's one of the best luthiers in Europe (if not the best). I own one of his guitars (D-18 copy with cedar top, 2005). As far as I know, he makes only 1 or 2 guitars every year but each one I played was just superb :guitar1: I'm just wondering where all the guitars are because it's hard to meet one. I guess most of them must be in Germany. Would be great to make a 'Stol guitar owners gathering' some day (EWOB Voorthuizen, La Roche festival, ....?) :-)

BTW, you can hear the one I own here if you're interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=naPIIKtHk8I

While I like your playing I nevertheless have never heard of Stol. The only one luthier with a similar name I know is Stoll (the one mentioned above). but Mr. Stoll is a Hessian home grown aborigne brew. Your guitar looks as if it already had to go thru some duty. Character I would say.

Right, RB! Never lend your guitar to drunk friends! :bang: Well, I contributed with a few scratches myself...

It's confusing but Stoll is obviously a different brand and there are also other "Stol guitars" (http://stolguitars.com/) but again - it's not him! Standa (Stanislav) Stol doesn't have any info online as far as I know. But he's really a master. He's probably one of only two luthiers I definitely wouldn't be afraid to give my guitars for repair.

I know a few other Stol owners from CZ (Ondra Plucha from Blackjack http://www.blackjackband.cz/, Jakub Racek http://bandzone.cz/_79895 and a few others). But the rest of instruments should be in Germany (as Standa told me). Keep your eyes wide-open, don't miss a chance to play it if you meet one.

I can pass a contact info if anyone's interested.

Stoll Guitars ist called according to the founder and owner's name Christian Stoll. I know that there are a lot good luthiers and instrument makers out there in the Czech republic in an area close to Saxonioa that is still known as "Musikwinkel" despite the fact, that the old traditional instrument making is suffering severly.

But then again .... there is something like a revival in the last years at least as to guitars and mandolins, that's my impression.

Hi Ondra, I played a good number of them, I know Stan very well... as far as I know he kept most of his guitars, not willing to give them away ;-)
Couple of years ago I talked into Stanley to build guitars for a living, but he loved the security of his M.A.N.-job...
Stanley is a great builder and human, I owe him quite a lot of skills from the beginning.
