I thought I’d share with you an article I wrote on the colourstrings teaching method as I think it helps explain my views on ear training and guitar teaching in general. I’ve used the method in the past for teaching children although I do believe that some of the basic principles apply to learning a musical instrument no matter what age you are. Your teaching method, especially singing notes/intervalls/chords to hear intonation and melodies better, makes reasonably sense to me.

The one thing what draws me a little bit off the line is the long term you exspect someone getting lessons.
You said something about 18 month aging kids getting lessons up to the age of whatever they will go for.
That's a very long period of time you're estimating.

In fact there are very few people putting they're children into musical education at the age of 18 month.
Most kids will start around the age of 5-8 or older.
And there are things you can explain in different ways when kids grow up and do have the words for understanding more complex things.

But overall I think you're totally right going this way. The better you hear the music "in your head" the better you play. A good musician knows how the next note sounds, before he played it.

Thanks for the comments. Re the age of the children, they do not actually pick up an instrument until the age of 6 upwards. Before this the lessons are singing, clapping etc in a group setting. In this sense there is also a socialisation element to the lessons whether it be the children working with their peers or bonding with their mothers and fathers when they are 18 months old (the mothers and fathers attend the younger classes with their children).
